As two arts in Chu Culture, Qusao literature and Jingchu patterns display the abundant Chu art from differnt aspects. Chinese romantic literature originates from the former while the latter shows the vivid artistic characteristics of Chu state in China's historic and cultural development. However , both are nothing but the interpretation of Chu Culture from differnt points of view. The original witchcraft culture in Chu State played an important role in the development of Chu art and kept to be a factor influencing its advancement. The description of the gods, ghosts and other mythological images in Qusao literature proves to be the evidence of the great imagination of the Chu people. The engraved dragons and phonixes also see the primitive worship complex of the people.Chu art bears the charcteristics of "openness" and "continuity", which lays the foundation for the develpment of Qusao literature and Jingchu patterns. A large part of Qusao literature got developed through treating the mythologies and legends artistically. The early Chu art was greatly influenced by the central China's culture while it got unique in the late period by integrating and innovating the various local artistic features.Chu art is an intergration of "openness" and "fusion". Since it was influenced by the central China's culture, the basic contour of Chu art can be described by artistic styles of Shang and Zhou Dynasties. Some examples are found according to the characteristics of Chu art such as its "development" and "fusion". For example, the gulosity engravings are used to illustrate the religious mythologies of Jingchu patterns. The thesis focuses on the similarities between Qusao literature and Jingchu patterns. The two art are studied extensively but seperately . The analysis of Qusao literature has reached a profound level, yet maily from literary artistic viewpoint with little from aesthetic viewpoint.
