| Revolutionary heroic legends in the 17 Years Period, and the new heroic legends started in the mid and late 1990s jointly make the two climaxes in contemporary heroic legends, and have produced profound effects on contemporary literature. Each of the two aesthetic styles has its own historic motivation, setting in different social cultural contexts.Revolutionary heroic legends are closely related to the Chinese tradition of folk legendaries, resulting from the integration of main-stream and folk cultures. While continuing the methods in revolutionary legends, the new heroic legends adopted audacious changes and reflected timely spirits. The new narrative modes and deepening of denotation of image-building are the most salient aspects, representing the ultimate legendary achievements in such works as The Sun of Mine, Liang Jian and The Sky of History. The pop up of new heroic legends, objectively speaking, is the result of functioning of market economy and"crisis of humanistic spirit". The appearance of the new heroes timely and effectively supplied the gap of psychological emptiness in the late 1990s, by constructing a more human and more pluralistic aesthetic paradigm in legendaries. However, the over copying and low quality products were inevitable due to the market and commercial operations. It was suggested in this paper that in order to solve theses problems, the authors need to rationally deal with the relation between market effects and the reconstruction of national spirit, that is, while continuing the benign experience in legends, the authors need to focus more on personal viewpoints and the pursuit of epic awareness. It has been evident that the heroic topic will never disappear. The neo-heroic legends are both from the needs of national spirit and the authors'reflections on the values of life. Without any doubt that the future of neo-heroic legends will be even more splendid. |
