Tang Legend's Influnces On The Novel Of Jin Yong

Tang Legends are wonderful works apart from Tang Poetry. Tang Legends are important in History of the Chinese Fiction. Tao Yuan, who lived in Ming Dynasty,said, "Tang Poetry and Tang Legends were the most wonderful works in TanDynasty". Lu Xun also thought that Tang Legends were excellent.The subjects of Tang Legends are abundant. The Tang Legends also reflect the national affairs to the lives of people and external behaviors to the internal lives of people, whether directly or indirectly.The Heroic culture is the most unique in Chinese culture. Heroic fictions of it are more outstanding.Hero was earlier mentioned in Hanfeizi's Five Valens. Later, Simaqian especially wrote biographies about rangers in Shiji. It summarized the basic characteristics of ranger, and influenced the later fictions significantly, but later historians didn't write biographies about rangers anymore. Later, hero images reappeared in poetries, novels and dramas. Along with time lapse, the concepts of the hero are more and more distant from historical specifics, and then slowly evolved into spirit and temperament like moral integrity, feelings, and the behavior of heroes and so on. At the same time, because of the inequity, people would like to accept kind hero.However novels and novel research were not important in the past. But in the 20th century, research on the Tang novels had staggering achievements leading to even more research.JinYong's novels are easily comprehensible. Because of this, it is the least important in the novel field. So, there's little research about JinYong's novels. Then, as the status of popular novel improved, research improved more and more.Undoubtedly, modern novels are affected by the original fictions. JinYong's novels are very excellent in modern culture and Tang Legends are very important in the history of Chinese culture. They are common in many aspects. So far, there isn't a lot research work about the relationship between them, so it is very significant to do research between them.My thesis mainly includes three parts. First, the hero images in Chinese culture and in literature. And the heroic fictions in Tang Legends had ground-breaking significance, and these heros are from real life but are different from real heros. In this part, I will discuss what the hero is, why there were heros in history, I will mainly compare the differences between the hero in history and literature. The second part of thesis is to compare the similarities in Tang Legends and JinYong's novels. One is social background which heroes lived in, the social status, the typecast of hero and so on. The third part of my thesis is a conclusion. Mainly discuss JinYong's novels developments based on the traditional culture.My thesis draw on the theory of Narrative and Communication.Mainly discuss the similarities in Tang Legends and JinYong's novels.
