Sense can't determine all things, while emotion can often play important role in people's life. Most effective mean to settle problems is to affect people's emotion and sense simultaneously. But the problem of emotion was so subtle that historians always negected the study of it. As an emperor, Liu Xiu's emotion not only influented his family, but also determined the construction of government and the stability of society. So the study has the profound meaning. At first, this paper analyzes Liu Xiu's emotion to his family. To his wife, he was a good husband; to his sons and daughters, he was a kind father; to his elder brother, he was a person respecting frendship and love; to his relation in law, his favour and frendship was firmly; to his country, he was full of love. We can say that he was a person full of love and frendship. He treated people around him with love, so he won their respect. The second part narrates his emotion to subjects in detail. To meritorious subjects, Liu Xiu treated them with favour and frendship. He made these people marquises and offered official posts due to the frendship of emperor and subjects. To common noblemen and multitude, as a sensible emperor with a wide chest, he tied his emotion with them, seeking benefits for them, cared and showed solicitude for their illness and hardness, made people's interests very important role in administration, which showed his exquisite emotion. The growing of this kind of emotion had two reasons. One was his family, which was an old and well-known family in Nan Yang. The other was his school education. He had accepted system high education in Taixue, which had great importance for the growing of his character. Due to dual effect of family and school, he shaped the charater of frugality, industry, preciseness and modesty. As a emperor, Liu Xiu's emotion had great influence to society. Firstly, it promoted safe and stable transition of Eastern Han Dynasty government, and created prosperous phase in the period of Emperor Guangwu, Emperor Ming and Emperor Zhang. Secondly, it facilitated the development of education of Eastern Han Dynasty, such as bloom of Confucianism and perfect of educational institution. Thirdly, it advanced social ethos.
