| The approach part of achievement goals, including mastery-approach goal and performance-approach goal, can facilitates creative thinking, which will be disturbed by its avoidance part, including mastery-avoidance goal and performance-avoidance goal. As for analytic thinking, the reverse is true. This means that the approach part of achievement goals will disturb analytic thinking, while the avoidance part will facilitate it. Three experiments were designed to validate the model of relationship between the two type of thinking and achievement goals, which in sequence can be trait-like goals in experiment 1, primed goals in experiment 2 and trait-like goals under the condition of different primed goals in experiment 3. The results were as follows:(1) In the task which measures creative thinking, performance-approach goal were adaptive while mastery-avoidance goal were maladaptive.(2) Under the condition of primed performance-approach goal, trait-like performance-approach goal were the most adaptive in the task which measures creative thinking, and trait-like mastery-approach goal took second place, while trail-like mastery-avoidance goal and performance-avoidance goal had insignificant effect in the task.(3) The relationship between analytic thinking and achievement goals remained unknown. The relationship between creative thinking and two kinds of goals (performance-avoidance goal and mastery-approach goal) remained unknown. Under the conditions of primed mastery-approach goal, primed mastery-avoidance goal and primed performance-avoidance goal, the relationship between trait-like achievement goals and creative-analytic thinking was still unknown, too. |
