Effects Of Different Restraints Of Thought On Creative Thinking

Creative thinking,the advanced process of human thought,which plays a significant role in the history of world's civilization,includes divergent thinking and convergent thinking classified by the directions of thought.All kinds of creative methods provide technical support for creative thinking.In this paper,we probed the effects on creative thinking of different styles of brainstorming,directions of thought and thinking training.This research is composed by two experiments.The dependent variable(products of creative thinking) is measured by fluency,flexibility,elaboration and originality.180 college students were chosen to participate in Experiment 1 which discussed the effects on creative thinking of controlled mode(discussional brainstorming,written brainstorming) and controlled focus(enumeration of wishes,enumeration of shortcomings, controlled group).128 college students were chosen to participate in Experiment 2 which discussed the effects on creative thinking of directions of thought(divergent thinking,convergent thinking) and thinking training(without training,with training).The results are showed as follows:1.The products of creative thinking produced by written-brainstorming groups are much more than that of discussional-brainstorming groups in fluency,elaboration and originality.2.The products of creative thinking produced by enumeration of wishes are much more than that of controlled groups in elaboration.3.Regardless of whether thinking training is carried out or not,the products of creative thinking produced by divergent-thinking groups are much more than that of convergent-thinking groups in fluency,flexibility and originality.4.When thinking training is not carried out,the products of creative thinking produced by divergent-thinking groups are much less than that of convergent-thinking groups in elaboration.5.On condition of divergent thinking,the products of creative thinking produced by groups without thinking training are much more than that of groups with thinking training in fluency,flexibility and originality.
