Eliminate Illiteracy Movement in Wuhan during 1949 to 1956, was a large-scale mass cultural revolution and reconstruction movement. It was not only the parochial action based upon the national Eliminate Illiteracy Movement, the external demand at that time which facilitated the reconstruction of new Wuhan, but also the result of the subjective aspirations of the spacious workers, peasants and cadres.Wuhan Municipal People's Government actively attached importance to the Eliminate Illiteracy Movement in Wuhan during 1949 to 1956. In order to resolve the social problem of the people's lower culture quality and exploit the effective human resources for the development of polity and economy, they factitiously chose the movement manner to buck for the favoring development of the social education career through the extensive sufficient mobilization, the criterion suited teaching job and the flexible various eliminate illiteracy forms. The course of the Eliminate Illiteracy Movement in Wuhan during 1949 to 1956, presented a series of distinctive features including implementing the systematic eliminate illiteracy education, attaching importance to the woman eliminate illiteracy education, properly handling the mentality problems during the movement and so on. Eliminate Illiteracy Movement in Wuhan during 1949 to 1956, which was large-scale and successful and whose effect was more obvious, improved the cultural, political quality and new societal identification of the public members and created the conditions for the every walk of life's development of New Wuhan. However, because of the historical particularity, it reflected the historical limitations and presented the errancy on drumbeating job, eliminate illiteracy cognition and the requirement of eliminate illiteracy and so on. At the same time, the Eliminate Illiteracy Movement in Wuhan during 1949 to 1956 has also given the important inspiration and reference to the eliminate illiteracy education of the new century. We can achieve new breakthroughs on promoting the eliminate illiteracy education unless we expend the long-term job of the eliminate illiteracy education on the basis of adjusting the strategy, respecting the special education law, paying attention to its functional changes, achieving to advance with the times.
