Research On Nie Gannu

Nie Gannu, a productive and outstanding Chinese writers of the 20th century devoted his lifetime to the writing career. His achievement features essays writing, poems creation and the research of the classical literature. This paper aims to complete the image of Nie Gannu through a overall survey of his lifelong literature creation.According to his ideological changes and self-conscious choices of various styles, this paper does a research on Nie Gannu from the following two angles.With analyses of Nie Gannu's life story and the ideological sources which affect the mold of his writing and personality, the first half is contributed to his childhood bitterness, his adolescent belief in anarchism, his lifelong favor of Lu Xun's character and spirit and his old-age indulgence in Marxism-Leninism. In his childhood, the bitter sufferings enabled him to be good at denying and doubting which are essential qualities for the essayist. In the adolescent years, the then anarchism contributed a lot to his aloof and arrogant character and the free will. His lifelong favor of Lu Xun's character enhanced his perception of the society as well the life. His old-age indulgence in Marxism-Leninism presented him the possibility to live a peaceful and leisure life. These four aspects are closely related to each other in terms of time as well as mind and all of them exert an dominant influence on the shaping of Nie Gannu's writing style and moral personality. Nie Gannu's diverse experiences are not only the source of his aloof and arrogant character but also the fountainhead of his writing. The second half of this paper is contributed to Nie Gannu's great achievement in creation of essays, poems in classical Chinese and traditional meter and also of novels.As an essayist, Nie Gannu was substantially and successfully influenced by Lu Xun's style. His essays, which show great concerns to people and avoidance of war events, inherit and promote Lu Xun's style and fighting spirit. As a creative and enthusiastic essayist, Nie Gannu also added original ideas to Lu Xun's style. This helped him to go beyond the mere mimicry and be creative. The spurious inheritance and creation throw light on the diversity of essay'style and the vividness of the applied language, the profundity of thoughts, the intensity of refutation, the precision of logic, the abundance of knowledge, and the originality of the organization as well as the vitality of description.As a poet, Nie Gannu entered the literary world with free verse poetry when he was young. However, he gained his fame in poems in classical Chinese and traditional meter and gradually formed his own style. His poems bear some practical significance and the characteristics of epic poetry. In a word , Nie Gannu drew on his poems to depict history, words to voice the era's groan. His poems, written in a profound and humorous style, became outstanding in the world of poetry creation.As a novelist, although Nie Gannu was not keen on novel writing, his small number of novels (more than twenty ) demonstrated his difference from others in terms of theme, character and wording. Those novels with their rich flavor of time and brief language truly and profoundly reflect people's tough life and fierce struggle during the war time. When it comes the arts of novel creation, Nie Gannu showed his show ingenuity behind his apparent unconcern. He often changed his writing techniques and tried to embody the unique appeal the novels. The changing techniques are: the borrowing of the style from prose creation; the employment of comparison and contrast; the special psychological and detailed description Nie Gannu made efforts to individualize the language of characters and used dialect in large amount to serve the local theme. With the charming nature and unique appeal, his novels are of certain importance in the area of novel creation with his charming nature and unique appeal.
