The 21st century needs intellectuals with high quality and capability. Furthermore, with the high frequency of international exchange, language status becomes more and more important. In the past several decades, English has become the most widely used means of world communication. So we have to explore the problem of curriculum development from the angle of present conditions and international competitions with the purpose of constructing a suitable and efficient communicative method to meet the quick development of our country. Investigation shows that after two years' college English study students are still far from perfect in their actual English abilities. One of the main reasons is that colleges or universities still can't solve the problem of continuity in the four years' English curriculum development. A reasonable and practical curriculum development should take all kinds of factors into consideration because in a wider sense curriculum development refers to all aspects of the planning, implementation and evaluation of a certain language program. Here, the language program refers to college English. This thesis aims at the junior and senior's curriculum development from a variety of angles and aspects.Seeing from different perspectives, different scholars have different interpretations of curriculum development. But generally speaking their contents are almost the same. This thesis aims at providing a sound theoretical base for the junior's and senior's College English curriculum development.Under the guidance of the language curriculum development theory, this thesis deals with the present conditions and existing problems of Chinese college advanced English curriculum development. With this as the basis, this thesis offers corresponding practical and constructive suggestions. It mainly utilizes other researchers' findings related with this problem and does a case study in University A of Shandong Province by way of quantitative research (questionnaires) and qualitative research (semi—structured interviews). Besides, this thesis mainly bases its research on the theory of language curriculum development that takes English as a foreign language (EFL). Furthermore, it also utilizes the internet resources which offer heaps of abundant information. The following is the main content: 1) the present condition of the junior and senior's college English teaching; 2) the necessity about junior's and senior's College English curriculum development; 3) the practicality analysis; 4) the tentative framework for the present college English curriculum development. For all of the above aspects, the fourth one is the most important part.As the enhancing and applicable part of college English learning, the junior and senior's college English shoulders the following roles: supply students with a sound base for their furthering English study; offer opportunities for the students' applying and communicative abilities; strengthen students' ability of literature appreciation and cultural consciousness, etc. Therefore, this thesis has both practical and realistic significance which can offer theoretical instruction and practical basis for furthering college English learning and teaching.
