English curriculum is an orientation to the entire English teaching, thus plays a critical role in the English teaching program. In China, the currently adopted National Curriculum for Non-English Major Postgraduate English Teaching was issued in 1992. After 15 years, many of its items can no longer meet the changing social and individual needs. Besides, universities differ from each other in various aspects, such as the English level of the postgraduates upon entrance, the teaching resources and teaching faculty, etc. Therefore, each university is supposed to develop a specific curriculum for its postgraduate English teaching based on its own situation.Dalian University of Technology (DUT) is centered in science and technology disciplines. Thus, postgraduates in DUT have a much higher demand for English than simple communication, hoping to combine English with their academic research. This study did thorough individual and social needs analysis through questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. Taking the teaching resources available into consideration and based on the social and individual needs analysis, a tentative English curriculum for postgraduate English teaching in DUT is developed.
