Image was an very important element of Taiwan local novels, and achieved a high success. So the study subject of this article was images of Taiwan local novels. The two concepts, image and Taiwan local novels, were defined in foreword. The main body of this article had three chapters. The first chapter presented all kinds of images of Taiwan local novels. The content of chapter two was image's spiritual direction, which could be divided into three levels: ecology, society, culture. Section one set forth natural landscape and ecological environment by way of images "night" and "egret". Section two expounded colonial catastrophe by means of "sugarcane", "steelyard", "chicken", "Washington Building" and so on; interpreted social criticism by "flowers in rainy night", "lupins" and "pear melon ". The third section focused on Taiwan people's spiritual world and Taiwan's cultural landscape, using images "name", "Rose", "sweet potato", "advertisement" and so forth. The third chapter entitled the change and continuity of images of Taiwan local novels, which could reflect the local writers'creative psychology and characteristics of the times. "Car" and "folk custom" were the examples of images. The last part of this article was conclusion, in which summarized the basic feature of images of Taiwan local novels.
