Lin Yutang is the first one who translates'Humor'into Chinese'Youmo'. He is the one who advocates Chinese humorous literature and gains the name of'master of humor'. He also communicates the concept of humor between China and the west.'Humor'is an important category in Lin Yutang's literature and art thoughts. The outlook on humor plays a vital role in Lin Yutang's art system. The essay divides three chapters interpreting Lin Yutang's'humor'. The first chapter discusses the connotation of Lin Yutang's humor. It includes the free and independent thought,the tolerant and aloof bosom, leisure and natural sentiment. The second chapter discusses Lin Yutang's'humor'as literary practice. He integrates humor into literary creation. It has lift the esthetic character of essay up to a new realm which has possessed the comic feature. Furthermore,there's ironic feature in Lin Yutang's humorous essay. It is filled with wisdom,soft and sincere and thoughtful. It keeps certain distance away from the age,it doesn't aloof from the politics. It sincerely pursuits art and beauty,it doesn't abandon social responsibility. The third chapter concerns about Lin Yutang's humor as his life's posture. Lin Yutang thought problems from human's development,happiness and fate. He saw human's happiness and wellness as life's purpose: life-enjoying. He saw clearly human's life essentially insignificant. The more hardship we face in life, the more happier and hopeful we should keep. Meanwhile,life-enjoying attitude includes positive emotions and attitudes. The significance of Lin Yutang's humor is discussed in the concluding remarks. It includes the criticism to the age, the uniqueness of literature,the regulation of life. Lin Yutang's humor reaches the unity of art,academy and life realm.
