Lin Yutang is a disputing person in Chinese modern literature history. He firstly translated "Humor" into "幽默" in 1920's and started publication "Lunyu" in 1930's. He advocated humorous article and essay extremely, so he was regarded as a great person of humor.This paper intends to research Lin Yutang's art theory and evaluate its characteristic and value again.The first chapter introduces Lin Yutang's humor literature and explores the reason for its changing from 1920's to 1930's.The chapter chiefly analyses Lin Yutang's art theory in 1930's:Ego and personality is main body , freedom is style and closing to life is principle.In the second chapter, Lin Yutang mixed Chinese culture and west culture together .So his art theory shows characteristic of toleration, reality and interest.
