Hu Shi is a great person in the history of Chinese modern literture. Researches of Hu Shi have focused on literature, history, philosophy, pedagogics and so on for a long time, but there are rare researches on Hu Shi's view of Rhetoric. Based on Hu Shi's poet, novel, essay theory, and practical works, through "ba bu docthine", this dissertation applies modern rhetoric to analyze Hu Shi's judicious views of Rhetoric, and points out the theory's significance to modern Rhetoric.This dissertation includes six chapters as follows:Chapter one is introduction. It briefly summarizes current status and research background of this topic, elucidates the method and significances of this research.Chapter two analyses HuShi's views of ancient poems on rhetoric in the aspects of relation of literature works and quality, the desuetude of allusion, the straightforward style of writings, the ignore of hackneyed words and details, and the relationship between principle and style .Chapter three discusses Hu Shi's views of modern poems on rhetoric in the aspects of free syllable, details, and punctuation rhetoric. Chapter four summarizes Hu Shi's views of novel on rhetoric in the aspects of language, mainbody structure.Chapter five concludes Hu Shi's views of essay on rhetoric in the aspects of frankness and honesty of essay, sense and interest of essay.Chapter six is conclusion, a summary of the research and dissertation.
