Return To The Living World

In the late 1980s, under the influence of western philosophy, culture, literary trend, the Chinese novel has finally cast upon "individual mundane living conditions." "Experimental novel" has provided the literary world with a new access to perceive life, that is, caring for individual's living conditions and living experiment. They concern about plain people's living condition, and represent their dilemma in the struggle of survival. Thus the trend of "writing individual's living condition" has been prevailing in contemporary literary world. Based on "the struggle of survival," this dissertation is going to explore the changes in the structure and language resulted from the specific forms of representation and living narrative, as well as the literary significance of this literary trend.The dissertation consists of three parts,including the introduction, the body and the conclusion.The introduction is a relative survey focusing on the literary concerns about the living world. It explores the narrative history in China and the western world. Based on former studies, this dissertation testifies its own significance and value. At the same time, the dissertation is going to define"the content of living" and "the perspective of living" the novels adopt.Chapter one discusses the novels from 1980s to 1990s, adopting a multi-perspective access to individual living conditions. In the basis of specific texts, after analyzing "shock of reality," "new citizen," "new experience," "new history," "women's novel," "the reforming transition's creation" and so on, this chapter will reveal human's survival conditions such as the awkwardness of living, life struggle, embarrassment, misery, loneliness, confusion etc. Chapter two elaborates on the detailed narrative structure and civilian narrative expression. In order to fulfill the requirements of this specific narrative, the narrative structure is plain and detailed. The narrative language of this sort of literature is informal and mundane in accord with its thematic requirements which focus on individual's living struggle. Chapter three analyzes significance of writing on individual's struggle of survival in the literary history. As a kind of cognitive and aesthetic perspective in specific literary stage, its positive significance should be affirmed in that it demonstrates the necessary requirements in the evolvement of literature. It symbolizes the return of the people's discourse. It also reflects an increasing realization of "what is the reality" in literary works. It also opens the literary trend in the new era that focuses on the human concern which puts emphasis on common people. The conclusion points out that this literary trend which focuses on individual's living condition is not going to replace other existed literary perspectives, instead, it coexists with other perspectives, such as philosophical, cultural, political, ethical, psychological perspectives. Consequently they are reinforced in this coexistence.Along with the rising and prevailing of this newly founded literary trend that cast upon human living conditions has its negative impact too, and its tendency of being vulgarized should be attended to.
