College English teaching in China had different characteristics in different historical periods. Since the implementation of the Opening and Reform policy, College English teaching has gained its great development however, for many restrictions such as the factors of teaching ideas, learning strategies, and insufficient teaching facilities, the negative consequences such as "mute English" , "high score but low competence" apparently occurred. To learn English is to learn the linguistic knowledge, as well as the culture backing the language, to acquire the practical abilities in English. Nowadays the society values more the college graduates' English practical abilities than English linguistic knowledge. Hence, to College English teaching, setting the purpose to train learners' practical ability rather than to initiate linguistic knowledge is on urgent command. College English teaching calls for an inversion of teaching models from the traditional teaching-centered methods into the new learning-centered methods.The research takes the advantages of the popularization of the web technology nowadays as well as the rising constructivist teaching theories, to present an innovation of teaching model, namely association-dialogue teaching model, for College English course. It may fit the development of the society and the new English ability criteria better. The paper includes four parts in all.The first part lists the main current College English teaching models and analyzes their merits and demerits as well. And the part also conducts an integrated research on the present problems existing in current College English teaching in our country.The second part analyzes the significances of constructing association-dialogue teaching model as well as the features of association-dialogue teaching model. The embodiment of the significances mainly lies with the realization of individualized learning, cooperative learning and hypertext learning.The third part presents the constructivist theoretic foundation from two main aspects of constructivist learning concept and constructivist view of teacher-student relationship.The fourth part, as the last and most important part, focuses the construction strategies of association-dialogue teaching model from four aspects including teaching objective, teaching contents, teaching organization and teaching assessment.
