Since the 1990s, with the modernization advancing masses of peasants have been living in extreme poverty on account of their loss of land and economic damages, worsened by the abuse of country powers imposed on them, as well as the lack of materials and low production forces.Country power, therefore, naturally became what many writers focused on, making the research on this topic more realistically meaningful.Commencing with the lives of the farmers, the thesis, based on the research of the background, structures and operating patterns, attaches much attention to the tragic fate and deformation of human nature brought about by the abuse of powers and the sense of being power-oriented. The thesis presents a profound reflection on the changing of farmers both culturally and psychologically together with the slow progress of democracy, in which perceptive to criticize the existing political system.The whole article containing about 42, 000 words is divided into 4 parts excluding forward and conclusion.The forward tells of the tradition of country powers being narrated in literature and a general comment upon the present research situation, revealing systematically the literary history and academic value of power descriptions in country navels.Chapter one introduces the background of country powers including the historical origin of power-oriented senses, the existing of family power, the motivation of the peasants pursuing power and its practical need to do so.Chapter two gives an account of the main kinds of power including political power, family power and economic power, embodied in some examples.Chapter three mainly tells of the operating patterns of country powers. Whether the combination of powers and violence interfering voting, setting up individual authority or playing seemingly persuasive tricks to control voting, the country power owners cause sufferings to the farmers by means of illegal and immoral implementation.Chapter four exposes human tragedies caused by the worship for power. Faced with bullying from powers, the peasants reacted differently: most peasants resort to obedience, some rebellion both publicly and secretly and others indulging themselves in the pursuit for power, mentally deformed.Conclusion reinforces the significance of the country power in country-set novels.
