| The focus of study on news interview in Anglo-American academic community has been on the impact of institutional constraints and turn-taking system in news interview within the framework of conversation analysis (CA). Their researches show that news interview follows a strict model of question and answer, and that some of the constraints such as time schedule, live broadcast and the characteristic of interview itself directly attribute to the asymmetry of turns between the interview and interviewee(s).Holding CA as its backbone and integrating IC in the course of analysis, this paper takes a step further to deal with the analysis of Dialogue, the only English news interview broadcast live in China comparatively and descriptively in order to cast some light on the influence of intercultural context on news interview as well as offer a new perspective in understanding intercultural competence. It attempts to answer the following two questions:(1) What are the features of English news interview against Chinese context?(2) How does the anchor successfully cope with the intercultural conversational conflict? The research procedure is as follows:In the first place, question, the running thread of the whole interview has been examined in terms of its structure and function. Basically, interview question is composed of interrogatives with a preface serving as creating a background platform between the interview and audience. Then, the investigation of Dialogue substantiates the assumption that though there is no big difference between Dialogue and its counterpart under Anglo-American setting, its forms of opening-closing, turn-taking system, overlap and repair mechanisms do have its unique features. Finally, all findings are summarized and some implications for future study are discussed. |
