To Symbol is to build a bridge mediating the timeless gaps between the ephemeral and the perpetual by exhibiting unlimited images through limited ones. It looks like a two-way route leading backwards to the beings of which any symbol becomes impossible. We departed from the meeting against works of art—through which the miracle of creation is understood—and go on for the meeting of truth. In this sense, art is intrinsically symbolic. If symbol, as a mediate, is destined to become either separation or accordance, then it would be a thorough mediate in the sense of Hermeneutik. To remain being separated is to remain in the state of quarreling, which makes it possible for us, when meeting the things, to enter into a dialogue with it, even if such things are silent and self-satisfying. The process of mediate, which exhibits the meanings of the whole, is at the same time both the process of separating and combining. Once the Aufhebung of self proceeds to its completion, the way disappears, and the very moment comes for the arrival of Sinnzusammenhang. It seems to author that the problem of autonomy of aesthetics intertwines with that of individualization, which foreshadows the incoming crisis of aesthetics itself as a valid subject matter. Gadamer's enterprise for saving aesthetic from such crisis is a proposal to introduce it to the realm of Hermeneutik. Only in the more inclusive world of Hermeneutik, it is possible for any dialogue to happen between the world of art and the world of reality. For in such a world, separation and combination of symbol become one and the same, therefore exhibits as its final end the meanings of the whole.
