This dissertatioin drew upon Paul De Man's article “Sign and Symbol in Hegel's Aesthetics” and continued the discussion on the theme. The the first part of paper focuses on the imaginative dual structure which is implied in the sign and symbol theory in Philosophy of Mind written by Hegel.Under the point of this structure,I found there was a mutal relationship between Hegel's Aesthetics and his Philosophy of Spirit. That is,on the one hand, the symbolic formation of art is the complement and specification of the imaginatoin of Philosophy of Spirit,on the other hand, which is more importantly, the whole Aesthetics is restricted by sign and symbol's structure of imagination.First,Hegel persisted in treating artistic medium from the standpoint of the class of sign;Second,Hegel applied the method of binary analysis in analyze art;The last and most important, the construction of binary elements of sign in Philosophy of Spirit prosupposed the construction of artistic form in Aesthetics.Taking over Paul De Man's deconstruction of Hegel's theory of sign, the second part of my paper pointed out that Hegel made a profoud disposition of associative relations through his dissertation of ‘this'.So,Hegel provided us a of reconsidering synatamatic relations and associative relations from the standpoint of associative relations. At last,my paper focused on the typical character which is connected with Hegel's preference of associative relations.
