Ernest Hemingway, a famous American writer, is often stereotyped as a masculine writer. He is just keen on hunting, boxing, fishing and bullfighting, so are his male characters in his works. Many critics have been obsessed with his works for many years, and regard him as a person who hates woman. In many of his works he gives priority to the masculine "code hero" with "grace under pressure". But he never ignores the females in his work. Under the mask of his masculine manhood, we can see the tenderness in his heart. Actually, he is eager to embrace the warmth of women. He is said to hate his mother. However, love is indistinguishable with hate. In his whole life, he never left women's support. Through his life and his works, we can reach the conclusion that he cherishes the Oedipus complex and needs the warm shelter of women. By re-examining his attitude toward women in his life, and analyzing some female characters in his works, we can find out the trend of Oedipus complex left in Ernest Hemingway.
