Abstract/Summary:
The paradigms of literature shape attitudes and practices, and thus, culture. These archetypes in literature foreshadow important trends and events in society and are crucial in understanding human behavior. The female roles produced by Hemingway, for example, pattern feminine evolution in our present day society. It was not Hemingway's intention to present these women as stereotypic or sexist, but as natural and realistic, therefore unconsciously aiding in female evolution and understanding.
