Learners' errors in language learning and teaching have been intensively talked about in the past several decades. It is widely recognized that the errors committed by foreign language learners in the process of learning can show their proficiency in the target language, how much they have or have not mastered and what they have achieved. All students make mistakes at various stages of language learning. In practical teaching, the teacher should analyze the errors, explore the possible causes and carry out error correction when necessary. So error treatment and correction is considered a vital part of the teacher's role. Of course, some errors can be corrected by the learners themselves, and through correcting the errors, they have a better understanding of the language they are learning. This paper is to make a tentative study of the learners' errors in foreign language teaching by reviewing studies about language learning and error analysis. It continues to talk about the causes and classification of errors. Then a case study is introduced followed by its implications for language teaching process. And finally a conclusion is drawn out of the discussion in the paper.
