Achievement test plays an important role in the teaching process of TFSL. It can provide information for both the learners and the teachers in terms of learning and teaching effect. Meanwhile, the concept of testing would have a washback on teaching theory. But all these functions are based on the premise that the test is effective or useful. However, most of the teachers have not been aware of this and their choosing or designing of the items of achievement tests lacks of guidance of systematic theories. Consequently the tests designed are not that effective to bring the role of test into play.Having the ability to use Chinese is the purpose of second language learners while helping the students obtain the ability to use Chinese is the ultimate teaching goal of the teachers, which means the language ability of the students lies in the actual using process. Therefore, only when the test situation is making the students to really use Chinese can the results of the test be used to interpret the students' achievement of the course. To this concern, the concept of using the language should be enchased when designing the achievement test. Besides, there are some questions that should be paid attention to from the perspective of test usefulness. Hope that by doing so we could provide the teachers with some practical gist when designing a classroom achievement test.
