The Research On The Women Characters In Zhang Wei's Novel

In the thesis, I conduct a research on the women characters in Zhang Wei's novel spanning different periods. Employing social criticism and feminist criticism and close reading, I'll analyze the image of women in Zhang Wei's novels to exam her reflection and critical thinking, persistence and resistance, redemption and searching.The thesis first study the women characters in Zhang Wei's novels at different periods. I set the frame of the development of her creation of women characters in three periods: women in historical reflection and criticism, women holding onto ethnical and cultural heritage, women seeking out and redeem themselves. Different women in various periods bear individual history burdens. The characters of women change form one to multiply dimension, from weak one to the strong one. The emotions also transform from the passivity to the initiative. Women characters also display the development from the singular human being to Goddess to the merging of human being and Godless. After I have fully examed women characters in Zhang Wei's novels, I find out that her women characters all share certain traits. They have a feminine charm of softness and intuitiveness, yet with a strong passion and the undercovered sub male-consciousness.The thesis also analyzes the cultural and artistic factors in forming the uniqueness of Zhang Wei's imagination. Her childhood experiences, the influence of Qilu culture and the conscious construction all contribute to the successful women figures in her novels.
