Interpretation Of Weeds Under The National Character Perspective

Mr. Lu Xun's prose poem collection weeds contains two emotional pattern: pessimistic and resistance.Owing to historical and practical reasons, over a long period of time, scholars tend to explain it with the research pattern of political sociology under the constraint of practical philosophy, whose deficiency is overcome in recent years. However, there appear some research perspectives totally deviating from the text. According to this dissertation, we should restore the original context to weeds, and study it from the perspective of national character which draws Lu Xun's attention all the time. At present research at this aspect is quite few, therefore, this dissertation will demonstrate weeds with the perspective of national character in a systematical way.The first chapter of this dissertation briefly reviews several main research perspectives: sociological, philosophical and love, and subsequently switches into my perspective: national character. The second chapter, along with the third chapter is the body of this dissertation. This chapter analyzes the essential causes resulting in Lu Xun's pessimism and desperation from the angle of national character. There are three sections: the first section illustrates his pessimistic emotional pattern, and the following two sections explain its origin from the perspective of national character. The second section focuses on nothing on the RUF in two aspects: "old culture" and "the foolish mass". The endless autocratic society in China creates this desolate nothing on the RUF, among which the tyrants cultivate the mass with the soft knife and the hard knife, and force them to be obedient fools and idiots. These foolish mass not only have profound and unchangeable with themselves, but sometimes attack and persecute those advanced torchbearer, which makes it difficult to revolutionize the hateful national character. This is the outer reason for Lu Xun's pessimism. The third section tells his skepticism of the historical circulation. As a writer and thinker with philosopher blood, Lu Xun begins to doubt the circulation of the history by right of his sharp personality and profound philosophical perspective and tastes the circling consciousness embodying in the alternation of times. And this kind of profound circling consciousness is the inner reason leading to his pessimism.The third chapter analyzes the ideaistic foundation of his desperate resistance in virtue of the writer himself. The living situation of desperate resistance mainly results from his unique personality, value and behavior. According there has three parts to discuss: sense of missionary, unique concept of revenge and burning life value, which is the crucial basis Lu Xun says his philosophy roots in weeds.The conclusion points out the deficiency of this research perspective and openness of the research on weeds.
