| From a certain perspective, the region of Min-Tai in the late Qing Dynasty can be called a microcosm of China in that period of time. During those seventy years, unprecedented changes took place in China. As a part of the whole picture, the region of Min-Tai witnessed all the stories that happened in China, while as the southern gate of China, it has more stories to tell. Looking for more benefits from colonial interests, Western powers turned their eyes to China and the region of Min-Tai inevitably become their primary target.Wars followed and the progresses of history being changed. The charters have been signed after every war and the consiquent treaty regimes marked the development of this region. A differentiational study of these treaties will lead us to a better understanding of the modern history of China. On one hand, the invaders had benifited a lot from these treaties, while at the same time, China had suffered great losts and shames. On the other hand, there were still positive treaties like normal contacts between countries and those concerning mutual interests on economy, culture and technology in some of these treaties .Another way to put it, these economical treaties did enable the invaders a lot of profits, but we can't deny that they also played a positive role in the development in the region of Min-Tai, considering the historical context, and taking the perspective of historical materialism. |
