Duangu Art of Weishan Lake has been handed down to this very day around the area of Weishan Lake, Weishan County, Shandong Province. Blended with many cultural elements such as history, religion, folks, art (songs, dances, Quyi, and acrobatics, etc.), it is a kind of pure fisher folk art, which is carried in songs and dances, and sacrifices. It is famous for its instrument "Duangu". Originated from the end of Qing Dynasty, it has been 3 hundred years history by now. Duangu Art is a valuable result of the wisdom of fishermen of Weishan Lake. Its style varies from bold and unrestrained, ancient and elegant to fresh and rhythmic, which figures prominently the unique form of the fishermen in watery region. In 2006, Duangu Art has been in the list of non-material cultural heritages of Shandong Province, and now it is in the process of applying for national non-material cultural heritages. Based on the data from spot investigation and cooperated with local fishermen's life style, religious belief and native human nature, this paper has combed the history of development of Duangu Art and its cultural implication, traced the history of Duangu Art, and expounded the cultural and artistic merits of Duangu Art and the important significance of studying canal culture. On the basis of former research, this paper also has a further exploration of the artistic features of Duangu Art from content, form, name of the tune, melodies, language, singing and performance. After objective analysis and demonstration of current situation of Duangu's extinction and tendency for future development, the paper has suggested the corresponding measures to protect and help develop Duangu Art. The author expects that through exploring and analyzing of Duangu Art, she could contribute a little to protection of non-material cultural heritage, and make more people know and understand this traditional and unique lakeside artistic form.
