Chopin is one of the most outstanding musicians of the Romantic period, and alsothe most important piano composers in the music history. Chopin devoted his entireartistic career to the piano. And the genre of his piano music is very wide. Chopinelevated the piano music genre to a new height, and Ballade is a representative example.Ballade of the genre originated from the poetry of the Middle Ages, the composersdeveloped Ballade to vocal Ballade until the18th and19th centuries. Chopin appliedBallade to the piano works of creation. Ballade became a lyrical, narrative, dramaticinstrumental music genre.Chopin composed four Ballades in his life. Chopin is one of the greatest melodymasters in history. So the author thinks the melody is one of the most important means ofexpression in the four Ballades. In this article, the author will regard four ChopinBallades as the research object, and analyze the melody creation technique.The authorhope to raise understanding of the melody of Chopin’s Ballades through the study of thesubject, and in order to serve the playing.First, this article introduces the creative background and genre sources of the fourChopin Ballades.Second, this article analyzes four Ballades melody creation technique by listing alarge number of instances from the melody line, interval tension, and developmenttechnique. The article explains the Ballade melody connotations through the analysis ofthe Ballade melody.Finally, this article puts forwards the suggestion of the playing.
