The Chinese culture and English culture are quite different. When the differences are reflected on the language level, it is language differences. Although the cultural connotation in Chinese and English idioms are very rich, in many ways, it does not necessarily mean there exists a one-one correspondence between the idioms of the two languages. This phenomenon exists because every language has its own unique system, and what's more, every nation has its own life style, way of thinking, language psychology, behavioral standard, values and cultural tradition. Therefore, it is comparatively very rare to find idioms containing the same meaning and reflecting the same cultural symbol.Taking the Chinese and English idioms as its object of study, and selecting the Chinese and English idioms rich in cultural connotation, studying the similarities and differences of associative meanings reflected in them and, also, the reasons of this phenomenon, this paper tries to explore the close relationship between language and culture.
