Since the 1980s, two theories—feminist literary criticism and gender theory—have given great impact on translation studies. Feminists started to pay attention to the gender issues existing in language and worked on non-discriminating in the field of language, and later they turn to another field—translation studies. Under the influence of feminist thought, feminist translation theory emerged in the field of translation studies. Though it has developed for only 20 years, it has great influence on this field. Its greatest contribution is the establishment and improvement of the translator's subject status, and its treason against the fidelity translation standard has been criticized by many theorists. This thesis will analyze its contribution and disadvantages objectively and then give deep analysis on the political elements of this theory. Though feminist translation theory is not a major branch of translation studies in China, but with the development of the world and the social trend of developing in a harmonious way, what kind of attitude we should take toward this theory is of great importance. So at the end of this thesis, I will introduce this theory's development in China and predict its future, hoping to arouse more attention from the theorists of this field.
