| Before obtaining the Chinese information,psychology can not be developed into a universally valid science,because China's population accounts for a large proportion of mankind. For cross-culture psychology, China will be able to re-examine the results of psychology from the new background. Similarly,research results to promote the Chinese psychology degree open to question before getting the Chinese multi-ethnic information. In this study,considering the lack of previous studies,we conducted the study on multi-ethnic defense mechanism and mental health of west college .In this study,we used a questionnaire survey to collect data as the primary means and 2,322 valid questionnaires were recovered. In data processing,I mainly use the analysis of variance,correlation analysis, a regression analysis of empirical testing.Through empirical research and theoretical study,conclusion was to be as follows:Conclusion 1: Study of ethnic and gender as variables,the scores of defense mechanism as the dependent variable,the result of analysis of variance:①In the immature defense mechanism dimensions,main effect of gender was significant,also the main effect of ethnic was significant, the interaction effect between the gender and nationality was significant (post test found that the differences between the genders of Han,Tibetan were significant,and the male and female university students in the national level were significant differences).②In the mature defense mechanism dimension,gender main effect was not significant, main effect of nationality was significant, interactive effect between the gender and nationality was not significant;③In the middle-defense mechanism dimensions,the main effect of gender was significant,but the ethnic main effect was not significant,the gender and ethnic interactive effect was significant (post test found the Han, Tibetan were significant differences in gender, the male and female university students in the national level were significant differences);④In the cover factors dimension,the main effect of gender was significant, ethnic main effect was significant,the gender and ethnic interaction effect was not significant.Conclusion two: the mental health of western college students had a significant positive correlation with the mature defense mechanism and the middle defense mechanism,but it had a significant negative correlation with the immature defense mechanism and cover factors. Particularly,there was extremely significant positive correlation between the mental health and sublimation of the specific defense mechanisms,suppression,humor; and the mental health had an extremely significant negative correlation with the projection and passive attack, acting out, complainment, fantasy, retreat,somitization,but had no significant difference with division;it had an extremely significant positive correlation with counterproductive form, lifting,idealistic,false altruism,incompetence of the almighty,denial and expectation,and there existed apparent negative correlation between the mental health and the determent,evasion,isolation,homogeneity,intercourse.The correlation between the various levels of national mental health and psychological defense mechanism had different features.Conclusion three: The multiple regression analysis for defense mechanism of the different dimensions of the western college students predicting mental health found that: both of mature defense mechanism and middle-defense mechanism exerted certain predictve effect on the mental health,but the immature defense mechanism played a negative role. The predictive roles of the various national mechanisms in defense mental health also had different characteristics.Conclusion 4: Western students of different nationalities in parenting styles were extremely significant difference. Post test found:①warmth and understanding between the Han and Mongolian was significant difference; ②there existed significant difference between Han and Tibetans in the warmth and understanding,severe punishment,overprotection ;③the excessive protection was difference between Han and Zhuang;④Han and Hui in the excessive interference, refusing and denying, overprotection;⑤Han and Uygurs in the warmth and understanding, overprotection, subject preferences ;⑥Mongolian and Tibetans in the warmth and understanding,rejection and denial,overprotection;⑦Mongolian and Zhuang in the excessive protection;⑧Mongolian and Hui in the warmth and understanding,excessive interference,rejection and denial;⑨Uygurs and Mongolian in excessive protection,subject preferences;all the above listed correlation between the two nationalities were significant differences;⑩Tibetan and Zhuang in the warmth and understanding,severe punishment,excessive interference,rejection and denial,excessive protection;? Tibetan and Hui in the warmth and understanding,excessive protection; ? Tibetan and Uygurs was the only pair which had no significant differences;? Zhuang and Hui in the excessive interference,excessive protection,subject preferences;? Zhuang and Uygurs maintain the same dimensions like the Zhuang and Hui;? Hui and Uygurs in the warmth and understanding,excessive protection;all of the above listed correlation between the two nationalities in their special kinds of dimensions were different.Conclusion 5: Western students'parenting and defense correlation were following:immature defense mechanism had an extremely significant positive correlation with severe punishment, excessive interference, rejection and denial, excessive protection, subject preferences; but it had an extremely significant negative correlation with the warmth and understanding;there was an extremely significant negative correlation between the mature defense mechanism and excessive interference,rejection and denial,subject preferences,there was an extremely significant positive correlation between the middle-defense mechanism and severe punishment,excessive interference,rejection and denial,subject preferences,and had an extremely significant negative correlation with the warmth and understanding;there was extremely significant positive correlation between the cover factors and severe punishment,excessive interference,rejection and denial,subject preferences,and had an extremely significant negative correlation with the warmth and understanding. Various nationalities had different features in correlation between parenting and the defense mechanism.Conclusion 6: In the overall data of western university students,family rearing styles as variables,the variable dimensions of defense mechanism as a dependent variable,multiple regression analysis found:①six predicting variables forecasted immature defense mechanism,a total of five significant variables entered the regression equation,the multiply correlation coefficient was 0.281,the joint explained variance was 0.079,which showed the joint five variables could predict 7.9 percent variance of immature defense mechanism.②six variables predicted mature defense mechanism,only one significant entered the regression equation,the correlation coefficient was 0.092,the joint explanation for the variance was 0.009,which meant the joint five variance could predict 0.9 percent variance of defense mechanism.③six variables forecasting intermediate defense mechanism,three significant variables entered the regression equation,the correlation coefficient was 0.132,the joint explanation for the variance was 0.017,which showed the three variables could predict 1.7 percent variance of the middle defense mechanism.④six variables forecasting cover factors,three significant variables entered into the regression equation,the correlation coefficient was 0.163,the joint explanation for the variance was 0.027,which showed three joint variables could forecast 2.7 percent variance.Various national level of family rearing patterns predicting psychological defense mechanism also had different features.Conclusion 7:The correlation of the overall Western community college students between the tendency of socialization and the mental health,psychological defense mechanism,parenting as following:①In dimension of the"dividual and collective"had significant positive correlation with immature defense mechanism,the middle-defense mechanism,the severe punishment,excessive interference,excessive protection,subject preferences; ②"seeking help support"had significant positive correlation with mental health ;③"social division"had significant positive correlation with immature defense mechanism,the middle-defense mechanism ,and had a significant negative correlation with the warmth of understanding;④"autocratic and democracy"had significant positive correlation with mental health status and warmth and understanding,and had a significant negative correlation with the immature defense mechanism,cover factors,excessive interference,rejection and denial,subject preferences ;⑤"management atmosphere"had significant positive correlation with mental health status,and had a significant negative correlation with immature defense mechanism,severe punishment,excessive interference,rejection and denial,excessive protection,subject preferences ;⑥"interpersonal environment"had significant positive correlation with mental health status,warm and understanding,and had a significant negative correlation with the immature defense mechanism,the middle-defense mechanism ,cover factors,overprotection,severe punishment,excessive interference;⑦"target prospect"had significant positive correlation with immature defense mechanism,cover factors,severe punishment,excessive interference,and had a significant negative correlation with mental health status,warmth and understanding,the tendency of socialization of various national level had different characteristics in correlation with mental health,psychological defense mechanism,parenting style.
