In recent years, cooperative learning is one of the hottest topics in the educational reform. Teaching strategies of cooperative learning have been concerned by the researchers engaging in researching teaching methods. The method of college English cooperative learning, which combines cooperative learning with the college English teaching, devotes itself to cultivating students' abilities such as: cooperating with others, promoting their active learning and the sense of their competition. The method of college English cooperative learning , therefore, is suitable for the present requirements of college English , as well as being able to solve the major problems in the present college English teaching . The field of the research and experiments on cooperative learning in our country, according to a great number of facts, which is mainly limited in primary schools and middle schools, has been new in the college teaching. This study, which is a applying research on my English teaching for college students, I hope, can benefit others.This study aims at finding out how to carry out the teaching strategies of cooperative learning by combing experiment and individual case study in terms of English teaching for college students. This study analyzes the process of the cooperative teaching strategies in experimental class and compares the scores between experimental class and control class by selecting two classes with almost the same English proficiency level and they are taught by the same teaching faculties. The results often show that these two classes differ in terms of the total score and that of the other respective items. After the implementation of cooperative learning in the experimental class, the total scores are much higher than those of the control class. Students from experimental class achieve much higher scores than those from control class with respect to listening comprehension, , vocabulary, reading and writing. In the low grade group, the students from experimental class perform better than those from control class in terms of reading and writing. In intermediate level group, students from experimental class are better in listening comprehension, reading and writing while in high grade group, there is no obvious difference in their scores. The changes in the scores , as well as the study of the individual case substantiates the fact that the implimentation of teaching strategies of cooperative learning has contributed to the improvement of students' learning consciousness, cultivating their cooperative learning capacity and overall competence and development of their cooperative skills and enhancement of their mastery of English, thus improving their scores in English.This thesis is divided into six parts exploring the study on the applying of the teaching strategies of cooperative learning.The first part is contributed to the introduction. In this part, according to the new requirements of college English teaching, the features of the present college English teaching materials, teaching aims, the requirements of the outline, the conflict of the traditional teaching methods and the new teaching requirements are analyzed, which, therefore, illustrate the necessarity of the study on the teaching strategies of cooperative learning carried out in college English teaching. In part two, findings, comments, the general theory of teaching strategies and the overall thought of the study are given. The third part includes the design, the method, the scheme, the object, the tool, the steps and process of the experiment. In the fourth part, the result is made out and analyzed. In part five comes the discussion. In part six comes the conclusion by analyzing the result and enlightenment. The conclusion is that the teaching strategies of cooperative learning is good for the college students to improve their English and their comprehensive competence.
