Research On Bakhtin's Theory Of Chronotope In The Novel

Literature is the art of time, since Lessing discussed the relationship between literature and time in the "Laocoon", the matter of time having been the particular concern issue by writers and theorists. Especially in the study of novel, the issue on time is fundamental significance, that is the best form of expression as the individual's capacity. As Plato said that any text is an expression of idea. Bakhtin,who is the Russian,can be said that is the first person who had systematically studied the time forms of novel. Lukacs (Goerg Lukacs),who is Hungarian, his expression on the novel forms in The Theory of the Novel, constitutes a good reference with Bakhtin's theory of the novel forms. Especially, they made difference between the forms of epic and novel as well as they made understanding of time containing in the two on the impact of human souls is the same, that can be embodied time significance of heart forms. Although in their theory formulation, one expressed the nostalgia complex on "can not do anything for the deceased", another expressed the picture of the future on "the living to the dead".The traditional way of novels reading often concerned about the external form features of works, such as the social and historical connotation on works, as the relationship between works content with the reality, as the author's creative background,etc. The external form features of novels are shared by all the texts. Bakhtin has a new way of the novels reading with his unique theory on"chronotope", it reflected that his unique concept of literature time. This paper focuses on the significance of the mode on novel"chronotope". The paper divided into three parts:introduction, body text and conclusion. Among them,the body text is divided into three parts.The introduction outlined features of the times on the research of the Bakhtin's timeforms, the ideological origins of his "chronotope", and the relationship between "chronotope"with the genre and the images.The body text of the paper is divided into three parts. The first part, clarifying the content on Bakhtin's theory of chronotope. Firstly Bakhtin configurate the timeforms of novel in the genre research. The novel genre reseash was back to that in the ancient Greece. The art texts of different eras was investigated that they contained different feelings of the people on time . Subsequently, Bakhtin interpretated the modern significance of novel timeforms in the classical case analysis. He chose three classical writers: Labailei, Goethe and Dostoevsky, their organizations on chronotope of the art texts, that reflected the sense of crisis of modern self-identity, and that reflected the contradictions of reality and the ideal.The second part , poses the central theme on the Bakhtin's theory of chronotope. First, novelness, in research of the time and space, Bakhtin positioned the the novel genre on study theory of chronotope. The novel genre represents the incomplete picture of the growth, it reflects the spirit of self-revolution and the strength of moving ahead courageoudly, Bakhtin called that novelness. Second, the relationship between the chronotope with the aesthetic distance of the images. Bakhtin hold on that investigating the existence of people from the time and space. The such way of his reseach subvert the traditional static time morphology of images, it investigats figures in the flow of time. The third part , stating the meaning and contemporary enlightenment of patterns on Bakhtin's theory of chronotope. On stating its significance, it divided into two topics:first, a unique research methodology that is the significance of the genre study on historical epic, that embodies mankind's self-awareness gradually deepen by the novel style features that is youg not to the end. Second, it is a unique research perspective that the sense of time-space in aesthetic value, that highlights the modern significance of novel forms of time-space. On stating its contemporary inspiration, the reseach on Bakhtin's theory of chronotope undermines the traditional way that the "literary arts is the time", it given the spatial significance in aesthetic value, and that as a theoretical paradigm, has overcome the crisis of traditional one. There is a similarity to the concept of the pursuit between Bakhtin's literary theory way and that of later in Europe.
