Tracing back human history, Central Asia (Referring to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan) has long been on the edge of European and Asian nation and other major civilization in the world. Central Asia is a typical multi-cultural region where a variety of culture survive and develop. Since the beginning of the 8th century AD when Islam was introduced into Central Asia as a special social and cultural phenomenon, there has been a history of more than 1200 years in this area. In the process of Islam's development in Central Asia, it has assimilated the original religions, and absorbed the traditional culture in this region. As a naturally extensive area of Islam in West Asia, Islam in Central Asia is deeply affected by Islam in West Asia while maintains its own characteristics. Nowadays, Islam has become the most popular religion in this region, which has covered most of this region. Therefore, Central Asia has become one of the centers of the Islamic world.Islamic culture emerges in the developing process of Islamism, and its prevalence often takes the rise of Islamic Revival as the turning point. The Islamic Revival Movement has been one of the permanent themes in Islamic history. This thesis focuses on the rise of the Contemporary Islamic Revival Movement in the 1970s. In 1979, Islamic revolution broke out in Iran. Since then, The Contemporary Islamic Revival Movement had a rapid rise, which affected the whole Islamic world.In the early days of independence of the five countries in Central Asia, the chaos in the society brought in an unprecedented opportunity for Islamism development. Islam rapidly infiltrated all levels of social life. There were complex background and deep-seated reasons accounting for the rise of the Contemporary Islamic Revival Movement. The Contemporary Islamic Revival Movement's impact on different countries and areas can be roughly divided into the following levels: personal beliefs, social life, and the country's political and international politics. Thus, this thesis discusses the influence of the Contemporary Islamic Revival Movement in Central Asia from these levels.On the introduction part of this thesis, the concept of "Central Asia" is defined firstly. Then, some Islam-related content is introduced briefly. Finally, the author put forward research methods, theoretical and practical significance.The first part of this thesis discusses the development of Islam in Central Asia. Then it analyses the characteristics of Islam in Central Asia. The course of Islam spreading into Central Asia are both nationalization and localization process, it has absorbed Central Asian's traditional culture while formed a unique feature of Islam in Central Asia.The second part of this thesis firstly introduces background, ideological origins and the major factions of the Contemporary Islamic Revival Movement. The rise of the Contemporary Islamic Revival Movement has a profound social background which happened under the background of"peace and development"and economic globalization. There are three main factions in the Contemporary Islamic Revival Movement and Islamic fundamentalism is one of the most active parts. Finally, it introduces the reasons of the rise of the Contemporary Islamic Revival Movement in Central Asia, as well as the main organizations and the stages of development.The third part of the thesis discusses the Contemporary Islamic Revival Movement's influence on the post-Cold War Central Asian countries' politics. The discussion is divided into two parts: the first part was politics culture of Central Asian countries; the second part was the regime of Central Asian countries. In discussing the impact on the political culture, there are mainly two aspects: personal beliefs and social life. In discussing the impact on the Central Asian regime, this thesis mainly involves official Islamic system and civil Islamic system. In the analysis of the impact of Islamic political party, this thesis takes Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan as an example.On the last part of this thesis, the author discusses the influence on the Central Asian countries' diplomacy and security by the Contemporary Islamic Revival Movement. The Islamic Revival Movement also has had an impact on diplomacy of the Central Asian countries. As a common religious reason, the relationship between Central Asia and the Islamic world had warmed up rapidly. This thesis focuses on the relationship between Central Asia and the Islamic world. It takes Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iran as examples. After "9 ? 11", Islamic extremism, terrorism has became a common enemy to United States and the Central Asian countries. So it has brought new opportunities for the development of relationship between Central Asia and the United States. Finally, the thesis discusses the influence by Islamic Fundamentalism on the security in Central Asia ,which has been the most active part of the Contemporary Islamic Revival Movement, and the new changes of Islam Fundamentalist organizations after "9 ? 11".
