Along with the development of world economy and the opening-up of China to outside world and also due to aging of world population and the lack of nurses. It has given rise to an increasing demand for composite talents who have a good command of both nursing and English. Under the circumstances, ZEC (Zhangjiakou Educational College) established English nursing major in order to cultivate composite talents that could meet the social needs.Nursing English should be under the title of ESP (English for Specific Purposes), so the research on it should follow the general theoretical framework of ESP (English for Specific Purposes), whose most important part is needs analysis on learners. This thesis aims at investigating whether the objective needs perceived by course designers are in accordance with the subjective needs perceived by students by analyzing students'needs through questionnaire and interview, in the hope of improving course design of EENP (English for English Nursing Purposes) course in ZEC. The thesis falls into five chapters. The first chapter introduces the purpose and significance of the thesis, and the necessities and feasibility of the study. The second chapter is devoted to the literature review of the related theories in the field of ESP, needs analysis and curriculum design. Chapter three deals with research methodology including subjects, instruments, data collection procedures and data analysis. Much focus has been put on chapter four, as it presents the detailed analysis of the research, which is divided into two parts, the first part is demographic information, the second part is results and discussions including three aspects such as learner needs analysis of teaching materials, teaching methodology and evaluation. Chapter five is the concluding part, It summarizes the findings of the study, points out the limitation of the study and offers some suggestions for future studies.
