This study is an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) curriculum and course design developed for a group of foreign language students who are enrolled at the American Language and Culture Program (ALCP) located on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills.; The study conducts a needs analysis consisting of an individual general questionnaire given to the foreign language students. The results (Appendix B) show that a majority of the students intend to continue their education and be business majors.; The English for Specific Purposes (ESP) curriculum is based on the results of the needs analysis and focuses on a required, lower level, undergraduate economics class. The curriculum is based on the theoretical principles of the genre approach developed by systemic-functional linguists. One unit of teaching is included as a sample of the method described.
