In this paper, using the comparison approach, to compare and study the Chinese landscapes and the Western landscapes artistic expression forms, find the features, compare the methods, explore the differences and similarities in the comparison. In this process, the author do not compare them with any bias, the purpose of this article is not to define who is the better and who is the worse, who advanced and who inferior, but to explore their own characteristics, to compare different environments from painting common artistic expression forms, the difference and the impact on the other, to provide valuable sources for the development of Chinese paintings.The 21st century has become an era of the communication globalization, the nations'cultures are related in the process of globalization. Chinese landscapes are regarded as the representative of the traditional Chinese art, to compare and Study, its counterpart, Western landscapes which depicting the natural scenery, will contribute to the promotion of the common development of contemporary art, and maintain their national traditions and characteristics in the mutual development.Chinese landscapes and the Western landscapes have the different artistic expression forms, the different philosophies cause they form the different paths of development with their own characteristics. Firstly, the characteristics of the traditional artistic expression, which is owned by the Chinese landscapes and the Western landscapes, are totally different. The basic feature of the traditional artistic expression in Chinese landscapes is "Harmony" which is the spirit of Metaphysics thought, emphasizes the freeness in the use of the brush and Chinese ink and "unique vision" concept of space. The essential characteristic of the traditional artistic expression in Western landscapes is to reproduce the objective world scientifically, to pursuit the perfect identity and harmony in the performance form of the natural. Secondly, Chinese landscapes and Western landscapes traditional artistic expression have the different cultural backgrounds. The cultural backgrounds of the traditional Chinese landscapes artistic expression are semi-feudal society with the mainland geographical environment, agriculture-based natural economy, the solidation of family and nation, underdeveloped Science; The cultural backgrounds of the traditional Western landscape artistic expression are open marine geographic environment, main industrial and commercial economy, loose individual combination, developed natural sciences, the different cultural backgrounds lead to a lot of different concrete expressions.1. The centre of the artistic expression in the traditional Chinese landscapes is human morality, showing the combination of the natural and human in the landscape paintings; the artistic expression in the Western landscape is to advocate the nature, scientific visual artistic performance is the main way:2. Chinese landscapes and Western landscapes use different tools to create different artistic expression.3. The combination of the poetry, writing, painting and stamp in the Chinese landscapes is totally different from the Western landscapes.4. The Chinese landscapes use experience to transfer, but the Western landscapes use visual feeling to come down.The above aspects constitute the various differences between the artistic expression in the Chinese landscapes and the Western landscapes.Although there are many different phenomena, but they both have many uniform features in their development paths:1. Chinese landscapes and Western landscapes have the same characteristic in the emotional artistic expression, and their objective of emotional expression is the only nature.2. No matter Chinese painters and Western painters, they both are concerned about the technique of the brush use.3. Chinese painters and Western painters, when they are painting the nature, both of them express their own subjective feelings in the process of painting.4. The artistic expressions of Chinese landscapes and Western landscapes have the same cognition about the colour.5. Chinese landscapes and Western landscapes have the same factors about the volume, brightness and shadow etc. The discussing method of this article is to explore the differences and compare the similarities in the artistic expression in Chinese landscapes and Western landscapes; its significance is to compare the similarities, differences and mutual influences of the painting works formed in different environments. The factors of the similarities and differences of the artistic expression in the Chinese landscapes and Western landscapes show us the human common cultural factors in some ways. Study and compare Chinese landscapes and the Western landscapes artistic expression, will help us get a better understanding of the developing context and evolution of the different artistic forms. Study and compare their differences, can help us make a better understanding of Chinese indigenous painting, establish its artistic value and status, but also let the world understand China Painting better. By comparison, we can also understand Western paintings more deeply. In comparison, we can find that the artistic expressions in the Chinese landscapes and the Western landscapes have their own aesthetic value, have their own aesthetic position and role, they both make enormous contribution to the art of the world. By comparison, we can explore the traditional Chinese culture deeply, in the creation of the contemporary artistic works, we should make full use of these valuable resources, use and absorb the excellent resources of Western Paintings, the past serves the present, foreign things serve Chinese developments, only in this way, we an provide more valuable works for the development of Chinese paintings.
