Before the Rococo appeared on the scene in the 18th century in France, the prevailing style of painting in Europe is realistic. The painting style changed as Rococo prevailed. The vague and complanation description, the decorative curve representation and the picturesque idyll all appeared. This thesis states that these new phenomena has something in common with the Chinese landscape painting. Through the trade between the West and the East, and the influence of the Chinese Vogue in Europe, the Rococo artists knew the Chinese art. Following the trend of pursuing exotic style and poetic idyll, these artists, who was under the influence of the Chinese landscape painting, painted the landscape in their own way through the combination of the European painting tradition and the Chinese tradition of "as is painting, so is poetry.
