Zhou Shoujuan is the typical writer of"Mandarin duck and butterfly---Saturday School"in the early time of MinGuo. His romantic novels are well known at that time and he is reputed as"master of bitter romance". His novels could roughly classified into"romance with sadness","descriptions of love","insistence of love","romance with bitterness". The characters in his novels are characteristic of being weak but elegant in the tone of sadness.In the first place, the writer has accumulated the life experiences of his youth, the appreciation after actual love, along with the experience of translating foreign literature, and tried to discover some clues to the creations of romantic novels. In the second place, the writer derives origins from Chinese traditional elements like the wonderful match of the Genius and the Beauty, which has certain influence on the creations of romantic novels.In this chapter, what's firstly introduced is the changes of such kinds of novels on recent societies and the influence of the popular novels in Wu areas on Zhou Shoujuan's creative tendency, and this is followed by the specific analysis on his typical novels, where their concepts and ideas are displayed. Eventually, this chapter is focused on a variety of women image for analyzing their changes and growth into maturities under the influence of changing times and social environment.In the last place, the foreign literature's influence and convert are discussed in the subsequent two points: first of all, Camellia plays a role in the outlook of value; secondly, the fact that Zhou Shoujuan's early experience in translating foreign novels facilites his discovery of abandoning traditional novels' tone and adopting winding roads onto contemporary novels.
