Reliability And Validity Of Chinese Version Of Dickman's Impulsivity Inventory In Rural Area

Purpose: To translate and revise Dickman's impulsivity inventory (DII),and to explore it's reliability and validity under Chinese culture. Our research will provide a scientific and effective instrument for research of impulsivity and suicide in China.Method: Based on the inventory studyed procedure, adopted sampling method to extract peasants and collect the peasants who were treated for suicide attempts in the emergency rooms of six general hospitals as the research objects. Study Inventory's procedure as follows:(1) Translate the items of DII into Chinese, form the Chinese predictive version of DII; (2) Administer the Chinese predictive version of DII to peasants who attended the trial test.Item analysis was applied to select several impropriate items .Modify these impropriate items and form the formal version of DII; (3) Administer the formal version of DII to peasants and suicide attempers in the rural area who attended the formal test. Item analysis was applied to delete three impropriate items, and form the Chinese version of Dickman's impulsivity inventory (DII-C). (4) Retest 116 random peasants who attended the formal test to evaluate the test-retest reliability. (5)Evaluate the reliability and validity of the DII-C.Result: (1) Item analysis, 3 items were deleted after item analysis ;(2) Reliability analysis, Cronbach'sαcoefficient of the total-scale and subscales were 0.713, 0.796, 0.673.The split-half coefficient of the total-scale and subscales were 0.764, 0.783, 0.675.The test-retest coefficient of the total-scale and subscales are 0.830, 0.771, 0.733. The reliability analysis indicate that the internal consistency of the total-scale and subscales is sufficient ;(3) Validity analysis, Content validity: Through translation, back translation, expert advice or opinion, panel discussion and trial test, the content of the revised scale fit the social cultural context of China. Construct validity: Confirmative factor analysis showed that the construction of the revised scale fit the original construction of DII. Differential validity: The suicide attempters scored significantly higher on the dysfunctional impulsivity subscale than the control group in the rural area, and it suggestted that the DII-C could distinguish the suicide attempters and non-attempters.Conclusion: Chinese version of Dickman's impulsivity inventory shows good reliability and validity and meet the needs of psychometric properties.It can be used in research of impulsiviy and suicide in the social cultural context of rural area in China.
