Objective:To investigate preliminarily the relationship of suicide behavior and childhood adversity and negative life events according to stress sensitization model among inpatients with attempted suicide. Methods:There were two groups in this study, suicide group (n=64) and control group (n=91). All the participants were asked to answer the self-administered general information questionnaire, Adverse Childhood Experiences Questionnaire and Life Event Scale. The score of adverse childhood experiences (ACE) and negative life events (NLES) were dichotomized into low adversity (ACE=0-1) and high adversity (ACE≥2), and low NLE (NLES<4) and high NLES (NLES≥4), respectively.Results:1. The most prevalent suicide method was taking poison. Most people first attempted suicide happened in adolescence and young adulthood. Most suicide was impulsive.2. The proportion of high childhood adversity and low childhood adversity is significantly different between suicide group and control group. OR-6.39,95%CI (3.07,13.31).3. The proportion of high life events and low life events is significantly different between suicide group and control group. OR=3.04,95%CI (1.57,5.91).4. High childhood adversity raised the odds ratio of high life events. OR=3.04,95%CI(1.57,5.91).5. Regression analysis showed that after adjusted age and gender, high childhood adversity was a risk factor of suicide [OR=9.75,95%CI(3.83,4.83)].6. Regression analysis showed that after adjusted age and gender, high life events was a risk factor of suicide [OR=6.79,95%CI(2.84,16.25)].7. Regression analysis showed that after adjusted age and gender, when childhood adversity was high, even low life events could raise the odds ratio of suicide [OR=8.217,95%CI (1.75,8.67)], and whether the level of childhood adversity was low or high, high life events could increase the odds ratio of suicide. The odds ratio of suicide was significantly higher in situation that childhood adversity and life events were both high [OR=40.15,95%CI(9.21,175.12)] than that childhood adversity was low and life events was high [OR=5.47,95%CI(1.07,7.90)].Conclusions:1. Childhood adversity increases negative life events.2. Both childhood adversity and negative life events are risk factors of suicide.3. The interaction of childhood adversity and negative life events increases the odds ratio of suicide which accords with stress sensitization model.
