Reliablity And Validity Of The Personal Globe Inventory-short In China

Objectives Based on the learning on Personal Globe Inventory-short (PGI-S) which constructed by Tracey, this instrument has a rational structure, has a highly reliability and construct validity, at the same time, which also have fewer items and easy to operate. In order to test and revise the PGI-S and finalize a Chinese version and establish the Chinese norm.Methods Accept Tracey’s authorizing us to amend the Chinese version and his suggestion, getting the original questionnaires of Chinese version of the PGI-S. Then having an attempting measurement on197students. We analyzed the outcomes of attempting measurement, modify some items and formed the formal Personal Globe Inventory-short-china (PGI-SC).The PGI-SC was administered to a sample of Chinese students (N=3300) including three grades of high school students and4grades of college students from all of the country. Questionnaires collected were2950and valid questionnaires were2567. The data were analyzed by RANDALL and SPSS15.0.Results (1) By RANDALL software, expert analysis, SPSS statistical software, we renamed8original items(3、4、5、8、19、20、24、40).(2) In the part of liking items/competence items/composite items in the PGI-SC, no matter high school students and college students or males/females high school students or males/females college students are all fit significantly by the circular structure of the eight basic vocational interest scales(p=0.004). At the same time, circular structure of RIASEC in those samples are all fit the data significantly (p=0.0167).(3) No matter it is the circular structure of the eight basic vocational interest scales or the circular structure of the RIASEC, there is no significant differences in the circular structure among the sample of high school students and college student、females college students and males college students、females high school students and males high school students、females college students and females high school students、males college students and males high school students(p>0.05).(4) The revision of Personal Globe Inventory-Short exhibited satisfactory internal consistency、test-retest reliability and Split-half reliability.(5) No matter on the liking items or the competence items or on the composite items in the PGI-SC, the scores on the social Facilitating、Managing、Artistic、Helping、High Prestige of males are significant lower than the scores of females’(p<0.05～0.01); the scores on the Business Detail、 Data Processing、Mechanical、Nature/Outdoors、Low prestige of females are significant higher than the scores of females’(p<0.01).(6) No matter on the liking items or on the competence items or on the composite items in the PGI-SC, the three grades of high school students are significant differs from each other on the scales of Social Facilitating、Managing、Data Process and the High Prestige(p<0.05-0.01).(7) In the liking items in the PGI-SC, the four grades of college students are significant differs from each other on the Social Facilitating、Data Process and Low Prestige (p<0.05～0.01). In the competence items in the PGI-SC, the four grades of college students are significant differs from each other on the Data Process、High Prestige and Low Prestige(p<0.05). In the composite scales, the four grades of high school students are significant differs from each other on the Social Facilitating and Data Processing (p<0.05)Conclusions (1) As the Chinese version of Personal Globe Inventory-Short-PGI-SC is the latest measurement tools in the field of vocational interests, indicated good psychometrics properties with adequate reliability and validity; in the liking items、 the competence items and the composite items, both the samples of the high school students and the college students and also by the gender within each sample, there are eight basic career interests and the eight basic career interests fit the eight-type circular model, the circular model also fit the hexagon model. The eight-type circular model is better than the hexagon model.(2) The females on the Social Facilitating、 Managing、Artistic、Helping showing the advantage; on the other hand, the males on the Business Detail、Data Processing、Mechanical、Nature/Outdoors、Low Prestige showing the advantage.(3) Both the3grades of the high school students and the4grades of the high school students, the liking extend and the competence extend are the difference.(4) The six-type circular model is not exited in the Holland’ RIASEC in the research both in the high school students and in the college students. The SDS proved to be a poor representation of the hexagon model.
