Hua Shuo Changjiang and Zai Shuo Changjiang are two impressive social picture scrolls, through which the development of the Yangtze River valley and even the whole China in economy and people's livelihood, thinking and ideology and so on can be seen clearly. And to a television workman, Hua Shuo Changjiang and Zai Shuo Changjiang can also be regarded as two landmarks in China's documentary history. The 20 years from the former to the latter was a golden period during which China's film production techniques and concepts made constantly breakthroughs, and also during which the academic knowledge connoted in the documentary was continuously explored and extended. The two documentaries' benchmarking status in their sector makes the comparison of them unique: what the development of the latter compared to the former in TV technology breakthroughs, innovative television concepts, TV academic expansion reflects is right a microcosm of the development and changes of China's documentary in these 20 years.
