During the period of tripartite confrontation of Three Kingdoms, the Sun Wu Kingdom occupied the east of Changjiang River, on the basis of which a line of defence difficultly overstepped was naturally formed. Accordingly, an era of rule along this River in the Chinese history was initiated, and greatly influenced the developmental course of Chinese history. Based upon the relevant literature, this thesis attempts to employ such theories as the modern geography of history and strategics with the analytical method of charts, to do an allround research in order to make a helpful survey of the line of defence along the Changjiang River in the Kingdom of Sun Wu. The general idea of this thesis includes the formation and management of this defence line and its relation to political situation of Sun Wu Kingdom. Therefore, it can be concluded that this defence line was the centralized embodiment of the political and martial policies of Sun Wu Kingdom, and they were intimately connected to each other for their survival or death.
