Wandering Between The Urban And Rural Areas

The research object of this thesis is the literary narration concerning "the countrymen come into city" in the transition period of literature. Using personal existence state of these rustics in modern society as a fulcrum, the thesis elaborates on the two levels of city-country and tradition-modernity. By studying the works or literary narration about "the entering-city rustics", the author analyze the relevant depictions about the existence state of the entering-city rustics in the transition period literature to reveal their mental state and the existence predicament after entering the cities and the writers' approving, introspecting and even querying to modernity in the different periods.The main part of the text is divided into three chapters in addition to the preface and the conclusion.The preface explains that duality structure of city-country caused by the modernization is the premise and the origin that the rustics go into the city, emphasizes on the special background and meaning about the literary narration of the entering-city rustics in the transition period, and introduces the whole train of thought and the frame of the thesis.Chapter One studies the literary narration of the entering-city rustics in history, revealing the roles of the contemporary literature in the course of Chinese modernizing and the relationship between the intellectual and the time, from the images of the entering-city rustics made by the writers like Lao She, Wang Tongzhao, Wu Zuxiang, and Ding Ling in 1920s and 1930s to the return of literary narration about the entering-city rustics depicted by Gao Xiaosheng and Lu Yao on the opposite vision in the 1980s, and since 1990s the "the entering-city rustics" has become the "narrating discourse" of the times and come the trend of this literary narration.Chapter Two analyzes mainly from four aspects of the rustics' desire of entering the city, the identity crisis after entering city, the anxiety of their existence in city and their hope of being urban residents of a certain city. It explores their existence condition and mental state under the conflict of the industrial civilization and the agriculture civilization, shows their existence predicament covered by the power of modernity discourse for a long time, and reflects the writers' difficult choice to the two kinds of civilizations in the modernizing process.Chapter three mainly discusses the narrative features in the literature of "farmers' flooding into city " on the following three aspects: narrative space, narrative position and emotional orientation, which concretely are the different narrative space between urban and rural areas, the narrative position of describing the lowclass peoples and the narrative emotion of the humane care.Thereafter,it points out the literature narration of "the entering-city countrymen" not only inherits realistic style but also has its special aesthetic feature about this historical period, which shows the noble aesthetic and humanistic spirit and enriches the aesthetic value and social value.The conclusion emphasizes on the realistic meaning that the countrymen-entering-city literary narration in the transition period again and points out the problems and shortcomings of these literary narration.
