The target of teaching, the plan of teaching and the courses offered of the specialty of performance determine the position of the vocal music teaching in the specialty of performance—the basic course of the specialty. The position of the vocal music in the specialty of performance determines the characteristics and properties of the vocal music teaching. The vocal music teaching embedded in the teaching of the courses of the specialty of performance has the characteristics of dependence, subordination, independence and unity. The functions of vocal music teaching in the specialty of performance lie in raising students' linguistic ability, improving students' expression of emotions, broadening the scope of students' character building, promoting students' singing ability and comprehensive competence. The competence and structure of students of the specialty of performance and the structure of teachers' knowledge and ability have some shortcomings, plus the plan of teaching and offering of courses, which hinder the performance of the vocal music teaching in a great degree. One of the effective methods of enhancing the teaching function of the specialty of performance is to build the teaching mold of "consistency of the four -year teaching in college" of the vocal music teaching and combine the vocal music teaching with the teaching of other courses in the specialty of performance. The other method is to build the connection of the vocal music teaching and the teaching of specialized courses of performance. First, the choice of the content of the vocal music teaching should be emphasized; the right state and posture of performance of students should be required; and the training of breathing, pronunciation, resonance and the emotional cultivation should be strengthened. Second, the classes of individual teaching, collective teaching, group teaching should be properly arranged. Third, the teachers' group should be built better, using various methods to improve teachers' qualities and abilities.
