In the 1980s, Chinese literature reached its peak on saga novels, which was called an important literature stage in the history of Chinese literature. Among many writers, Zhang Wei, based on its publication of Ancient Boat, aroused people's concern; and his created saga novels played an essential role at that time. Moreover, the model of parent-child relationship, revealed in Zhang Wei's saga novels, attracts people's attraction. This creation model helps us to understand the family culture and the attitude toward to family culture in the tradtional culture in the 1980s and 1990s. In saga novels, the parent-child relationship is a key factor for saga novels and it is ussually found in works by means of the father-child relationship and mother-child relationship. This paper focuses on the parent-child relationship. At the same time, the father-child relationship is reasonablly linked to the mother-child relationship in this paper, so as to facilitate us to deeply understand and seek tradtional Chinese cultural concepts and writers'creation of psychology in saga novels.Briely introduce formation and development of saga novels in the 20th century, set up a new role of Zhang Wei's saga novels in the contemproary saga novels. The parent-child relationship in saga novels shows Zhang Wei's understanding of traditional Chinese cultural concepts and is a subject to be deeply researched. Current research situations, resarch ideas and research methods are also indicated. In Zhang Wei's saga novels, the father-child relationship is an important character relationship. The ceaseless conflict between a father and his sons gives an impetus to narrate characters in Zhang Wei's saga novels. This conflict also reflects on seeking new balance and the search may be successful and may fail. The father-child relationship can be presented in following three aspects: 1."fatherless"status of daughters and sons arising from the absence of"father". In order to perfect"fatherless"status, longing for"father seeking"produces; 2..an impulse of"patricide"and the sense of disrepecting the father by daughters and sons; and 3. refusal on the father and escape of sons and daughters. The attitude to"mothers"is prudent in Zhang Wei's saga novels. On one hand, mothers'great energy is given off when they face danger and disaster. Grand maternal love and mothers'protectionon sons and daughters are represented. On the other hand, a mother is not goddess. In a given environment, a mother's release may be resulted in attenuation or distortion. Therefore, Zhang Wei attaches more importance on"human nature"of mothers and writes a dispute among people and people's hideous. In order to deeply understand Zhang Wei's motivation and reason on creation, the writer tries to seek the origin of the model of parent-child relationship. This part focuses on social and cultural context at transforming period of 20th century, Chinese national cultural traditions and analysis on the parent-child relationship in Zhang Wei's saga novels. In the epilogue, I have probed into reasons why the model of parent-child relationship plays a prominent role in Chinese saga novels and pointed out cultural connotation and meanings in saga novels:"escape"and father seeking of sons and daughters indicate that sons and daughters care for themselves and seek for their demands and shows returning to mothers and the"materal world". This also expresses the ambivalence on family culture in traditional Chinese culture of Zhang Wei.
