In the transition period,British society had great changes,the gentry rose in this period,and created important influence on the stage of the English history,however,family as the cell of the society,took some changes but the family structure and internal relations were not so mutations in squire family.With the development of the society,the ways of the parenting,the conditions of the education and the marriage of the children also had some changes,but the relationship between parents and children presented stable intimacy.This article analysizes and studies the structure and size of the gentry family with the investigating data,and studies the parent-child relationship from the aspects of parenting,education,marriage of life with the memoirs,diaries,letters and analysizes the characteristic of the parent-child relationship of gentry family and discusses the influence of parent-child relationship.The paper mainly includes four chapters to expound the opinion.The chapter one mainly describes the situation of the gentry family,explains the meaning of the family and defines that the family is that the members live under the same roof,and belong to the same family,and describes the rise of the gentry class,the gentry situation of the economy,the politics and the social status,and further studies the size and structure of the gentry family and points out that the average size of the gentry family is relatively large,which arrives 6.63 people,and the dominant type of the family is the nuclear family.The chapter two analyzes parents' emotional engagement and material helps for their children mainly from the aspects of parenting,education,marriage,parents take care of their children and children return to their parents.However children's return can't equal to their parents' giving.The chapter three mainly analyzes the characteristic of the parent-child relationship of British gentry family during the period of transition,which includes continuous intimacy and two-way reciprocity,and analyzes the factors affecting the parent-child relationship,the parent-child relationship of gentry family is affected by the growth of individualism more or less,but the effect is very small.The chapter four analyzes the influence of the individual socialization and the gentry's social status in the transition period of English society.The parents take on the initial responsibility in the process of the individual socialization.The gentry parents play an important role in forming their children's value,and the gentry parents provide financial sponsorship,emotion and social contact to help their children achieve upward mobility through getting into career in law,pastor,administration,businessing and property management.
