The Carnival Spirit Of The Journey To The West

The previous text study the journey to the west can conclude into two viewpoints according to the different opinions on the key of the novel wrintings. The first viewpoint is religion philosophy which apperared mainly during Ming and Qing Dynasty especially Qing Dyansty, and influenced wild even abroad.This opinion believed that the author emphasize particularly on the religion tenets,such as Buddhism,Confucianism,Taoism or the three mixed together. Another thought is using the common customs cultural to analysis the text which varied a lot, such as game saying, fairy tale, philosophy, mythology, personality developing and so on. However the research of the journey to the west seldom talk about the carnival spirit in the text. In fact the carnival spirit is very clear and deep in the text,so it has a great value to discuss it systemically. This thesis will discuss the carnival spirit by introducing Bakhtin's carnivalesque theory from folk and carnival viewpoints. We admit that the discussion is carried out under the situation that the west and east contexts are different as a result the understandings are also different. We claim the dialogue supported by Bakhtin to analysis the text.The thesis will discuss the carnival spirit of the text from three points:the Second World, Carnival Narrate and Humor in the folk. From he novel we can see the carnival spirit which challenge the authority ,but on the whole the carnival spirit activities in the text is not complete carnival of the folk because the religion ideology has great effect. The carnival spirit in the journey to the west can not entirety clear up the authority of the rulers. All the carnival activities neither share the content of ridiculing the king as the west texts, nor clear up the main ideology .Although ridiculed ,the god and other rulers are still prayed and beilieved. So to some extent the text reconstruct the carnival spirit into Harmony of Nature and Human Beings philosophy model which not appear in the west context.In addition what Bakhtin enlight us is that he offers us a new way of thinking and a new method.We claim dialogue, stressing that every view is one of the dialogue chains, each interpretion is in the rough not finished. And such uncohipletion guides us to a new world. The text is open to us,therefore the interpretion is unlimited.
